SABIC announced the foundation of a polycarbonate project in Tianjin with an annual production of 260 kilo metric tons in collaboration with China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (SINOPEC) . A Protocol of Cooperation on the polycarbonate project, was previously signed and announced on the Tadawul site on May 17, 2011. The 50/50 joint venture aims to form a USD 1.7 billion polycarbonate project in Tianjin, which is expected to be operational by 2015. The new complex will enhance SABICs advanced technologies for producing world-class polycarbonate and will add value by improving quality, purity, transparency and continuity of manufacturing processes. It will provide new local capacities for specialty chemical resins that support the customer base in China. Polycarbonate materials are necessary components in automotive spare parts and CD manufacturing, and are also used to manufacture other various consumer products. SABIC has a strong presence in 13 of the most important Asian markets through 41 offices, 10 manufacturing sites and 5 Technology and Innovation centers, which serve many customers in various industries.
