Saudi Arabia to inspect SABIC and other state-owned companies for illegal workers

10/02/2014 Argaam

As part of wider drive to crackdown on illegal workers in Saudi Arabia, the government has started a campaign to inspect state-owned and state majority-owned companies for illegal workers, al Hayat, a Saudi-owned pan-Arab newspaper, reported.

Iron & Steel (Hadeed), an affiliate owned by Saudi Basic Industries Corp (SABIC), the petrochemical giant, tops the list of a new inspection campaign launched by the Labor Ministry, the newspaper added, citing unidentified sources.

The inspection will also cover military, medical and petrochemical facilities owned by the government.

The government has deported over 2 million illegal workers in the past year as part of a campaign to reform the Saudi labor market and encourage employers to hire more nationals.
