Sabic is discussing with potential partners the founding of a cracking unit in the United States, and will reach final decision at the end of 2014, said Mohamed Al-Madi, CEO of Sabic.

Al-Madi, who was speaking on the sidelines of a petrochemicals event in Europe, added “We are looking into several opportunities in the US… to make use of shale gas…. end products will include polyolefins, fertilizers and methanol.”

Al-Madi expected the current discussions to lead to one or two investment opportunities by the end of 2014, and said end products of any potential project will be marketed in North and South America markets.
