The National Committee of Cement Companies recently held talks with Saudi Arabia’s ministry of trade to discuss exports of surplus clinker supplies, said Jihad Alrasheed, chairman of the committee.
The kingdom’s cement companies are expected to have 25 million tons of clinker inventory by the end of this year, according to Alrasheed in a report published by Al-Riyadh newspaper.
Alrasheed pointed out that cement factories currently have inventory “exceeding the normal amounts.” He stressed the need for exports in order to avoid damaging and wasting surplus supplies.
By the end of October, clinker inventory across the kingdom amounted to 21.2 million tons, compared to 11.1 million at the same period last year, according to data available on Argaam
