Saudi Arabia’s water facility gets ‘world’s largest’ desalination unit

26/11/2014 Argaam

Saudi Arabia’s power generation and desalination facility received the fourth water desalination unit at its Yanbu project.

The new unit, which is considered the world's largest, will be installed on concrete bases at the plant site by the end of this week, according to the facility. The project is currently in its third phase.

Mohamed Ayed, the general manager of the west coast’s facility, said that the new unit is the fourth out of six to be installed in the kingdom.

The unit's current production capacity is approximately 94,000 cubic meters per day, Ayed said.

Capacity will increase to about 550,000 cubic meters when the project is completed in order to meet the growing need for desalinated water in the kingdom, he added.
