Cristal awards EPC contracts of titanium sponge project to Chiyoda, CTCI

National Industrialization Co (Tasnee) said that its affiliate, The National Titanium Dioxide Company Ltd. (Cristal) has awarded engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts to Chiyoda and CTCI Corporation (CTCI) to execute its $290 million titanium sponge project.
 
The company expects the project to be completed by the first half of 2017, with commercial production scheduled for third quarter 2017.
 
The venture is part of the company's conversion projects to process its ilmenite processing plant.
 
According to Argaam’s data, Tasnee signed a joint venture agreement with Japan’s Toho to set up the SAR 1.6 billion titanium sponge project.
 
Tasnee and Cristal each hold a 32.5 percent stake in the project, while Toho controls 35 percent.
