Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has invited bids from selected international companies for the operation of a new terminal at Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA), GACA’s Vice President Faisal Bin Hamad Al-Sugair told Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper.
Al-Sugair expects the new terminal to open its doors by mid-2016.
The multi-billion dollar project, which covers 105 square kilometers of land, will be developed in three phases till 2035, according to reports published by Argaam.
The airport will have initial capacity for 30 million passengers, increasing this to 43 million in the second phase by 2025 and 80 in the third and final phase in 2035.
