GOSI says 9.5 mln customers subscribed to social insurance scheme by 2014

01/06/2015 Argaam - Exclusive

Saudi Arabia’s General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI) said that a total of 9.5 million clients were subscribed to the social insurance scheme by the end of last year, marking a year-on-year rise of 4.6 percent.

According to GOSI’s annual report for 2014, 179,000 subscribers were said to come from the public sector, representing 1.9 percent of total subscriptions.

Meanwhile, more than 98 percent of those insured came from the private sector, which accounted for 9.3 million subscriptions.

Despite last year’s growth, the kingdom’s crowded insurance sector has come under pressure in recent years amid low penetration rates and higher medical costs, which has made it more difficult for smaller firms in the market to maintain or grow their presence.
