Saudi Aramco, the world’s largest oil exporter, said that it has launched plans to increase the capacity of its East-West crude pipeline to 7 million barrels per day.
The company said at least 90 percent of the project’s engineering details and studies have already been completed by the end of 2014. Aramco added that it plans to use nanotechnology and materials that will extend the pipeline’s operational duration over the years.
The expansion will help the company cut back on trucks used to transport oil products, thus allowing it to reduce carbon emissions.
