Halwani Bros Co., one of the Middle East’s largest food producers, launched on Wednesday commercial operations at two facilities at its Jeddah industrial complex.
The move marks the launch of the complex’s second phase, the company said in a statement to the Saudi bourse. Financial impact, as well as the total cost of the project will be revealed at a later date.
Other facilities in the development are still undergoing trials.
The new industrial complex will produce tahini, halawa, jams, dairy, and cheese products.
Its construction has been divided into two phases, according to data available on Argaam. The first phase contract was awarded to Allied Engineering Enterprises Saudi Arabia in 2009, at a total value of SAR 52 million. Allied Engineering also won a SAR 110 million contract to provide civil and steel structural work for the second phase in 2011.
Halwani is expanding its manufacturing activities in order to benefit from the rising demand for the company's products in domestic and international markets.
