Alstom Grid, National Grid to co-develop Saudi’s energy infrastructure

29/06/2015 Argaam

Alstom Grid and Saudi Arabia’s National Grid Company, which is wholly owned by Saudi Electricity (SEC), signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop the kingdom’s electricity infrastructure, according to a statement by Paris-based Alstom.

Under the deal, which was inked in April, the two companies will work on standards and specifications, engineering and design, as well as maintenance and a technology roadmap for Saudi’s energy infrastructure. Alstom will also train engineers at National Grid to handle future maintenance and day-to-day operations.

Alstom’s main focus is providing solution for power transmission on smart grids. National Grid Saudi Arabia, established in 2012, is in charge of upgrading, operating, maintenance, and control of electrical transmission grids in the kingdom.

The kingdom has been spending heavily on upgrading its electricity infrastructure to meet demand from a growing population and its expanding industrial sector. SEC is considered the largest utility provider in the GCC region.

Alstom Grid currently operates in the field of global energy and grid services. The company designs, manufactures, and installs services and power transmissions and distribution products.
