Four consortiums— including Saudi Arabia’s Acwa Power— are looking to present bids on Sept. 15 for the Fadhili cogeneration independent power project (IPP) in the Eastern Province of the kingdom, MEED reported.
JGC and Mitsubishi from Japan and France’s GDF Suez (now known as Engie) are the other groups. Nine groups had been prequalified for the tender.
The cogeneration plant is a joint venture partnership of state utility Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) and state oil major, Saudi Aramco.
The cogeneration project is scheduled to be developed on a 20-year power, water and steam purchase agreement with Aramco the off-taker for the steam and water components and SEC the off-taker for the produced electricity, the report said.
The proposed IPP will have a total power capacity of between 1,200MW and 1,600MW.
