Saudi Butanol Co. (Sabuco) has started test production at its butanol plant in Jubail, ICIS reported citing market sources.
The plant, which has the capacity to produce 330,000 tons per year of n-butanol and 11,000 tons per year of isobutanol, was scheduled to start up by end of July, but was delayed for unknown reasons.
Commercial production and sales are set to start in November once the plant achieves on-spec production, which is set to be achieved by mid-October, the report said citing traders.
Sabuco, set to be the world's largest butanol plant, is a joint venture between Sadara Chemical Co., Saudi Acrylic Acid Co. and Saudi Kayan.
