Saudi Arabia will keep making payments to Saudi Binladin Group (SBG) for ongoing work despite the sanctions against the company and its officials after last week's Makkah crane disaster, Reuters quoted a senior Saudi official as saying.
The official said that the royal court's ruling does not affect current projects SBG is involved in and the review was to ensure all its projects adhered to safety rules and regulations, Reuters reported.
Early last week, the kingdom's royal court said SBG had been suspended from taking any new contracts, as the initial investigation committee into the crane’s fatal accident found that Saudi Arabia's largest contractor was in violation technical safety procedures. Site managers also failed to adhere to safety instructions that should be followed in case of bad weather, the committee had said.
