Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) has launched a new agri-nutrients strategic business unit (SBU), the major petrochemical producer said Monday in a statement.
The unit’s new product— already demonstrated by NPK Date Palm— will allow for a single-use fertilizer that improves the quality of the crop and minimizes the challenge of “alternate bearing,” or the tendency of a tree to produce a large crop one year, followed by below-average crop the next.
The Agri-nutrients SBU will further boost its offerings by adding compounding, logistics, and advisory services, to ensure the more efficient introduction of crop-specific fertilizers and products.
It will also be able to facilitate assistance to farmers with other SABIC SBUs such as polymers, whose products (LDPE, LLDPE, PP and HDPE) are used to serve the agricultural sector. These include irrigation pipes, greenhouses, Raffia bags, and plastic crates.
The company has also rebranded its fertilizer segment as a "farm feeds" unit.
The move comes as part of SABIC’s plan to restructure its global operations and business units. The petchem producer recently announced its goals to become a more “customer-focused” corporation.
