The Jordanian government signed on Sunday a $128 million contract with Abu Dhabi-based Enviromena Power Systems and Spain’s TSK Group to build a 100-megawatt solar power plant in Al Qweira, The Jordan Times reported, citing minister of energy and mineral resources Ibrahim Saif.
The project, which will be owned by the government and financed by a grant from the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, is part of Jordan’s plan to raise the contribution of renewable energy resources to the overall energy mix to ten percent by 2020, Saif added.
Construction of the new plant is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2016, and should be completed and connected to the grid by the end of 2017, Sami Khoreibi, Enviromena’s chief executive officer said.
Enviromena, which has offices in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, is an alternative energy systems integrator that provides solar system design and engineering consulting for the region.
