Four armed men set fire to a bus carrying workers in Saudi Arabia’s oil-producing Eastern Province on Tuesday, state news agency SPA reported, citing the region’s police spokesman.
Injuries have not yet been reported, and investigations are ongoing, the spokesman added.
According to local media, the armed group stopped the bus transporting Saudi Aramco employees in the district of Qatif, the home of prominent Shiite cleric Nimr al-Nimr, who was executed by Saudi authorities last week.
Nimr’s death has sparked anger among Iranian protesters, who later stormed the Saudi embassy in Tehran. The kingdom, along with Bahrain, has severed diplomatic ties with Iran as regional tensions escalated.
