Turkish TAV Airport, French VINCI construction, and Malaysia’s MAHB (Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd) could potentially win bids for Taif Airport, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The winning companies will design, operate and construct Taif International Airport under full Private Public Partnership (PPP) model.

Turkish TAV is willing to bring liquidity and undertake risks, David Clifton, regional director of Faithful+Gould told Argaam.

“The Turkish minister has made a commitment to the royal family to invest in housing, airports, other public works,” he said.

Alternatively, French companies like ADPI could team up with VINCI because they can ensure liquidity and export credit agency guarantee, according to a Saudi official familiar with the matter.

Turkish Limak Holding also might join TAV to bid for this project. Kuwait airport, a $2.5 billion scheme, was awarded to Limak twice. However, the Kuwait parliament has taken it back and is planning to tender again.

“With Turkish government support, Limak Holding might re-direct into Saudi,” Clifton added.

Moreover, Datuk Aziz Kaprawi, the Malaysian Deputy Transport Minister has told The Sun Daily that Malaysia’s MAHB is invited to bid for Taif Airport’s new terminal.

He added that MAHB has been shortlisted along with four other bidders to operate and manage the SAR 30 billion terminal of King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) in Jeddah.

The Saudi Arabian General Authority of Civial Aviation (GACA) is said to announce the winners by July 2016.
