US restaurant chain Wendy’s plans Saudi expansion

Kuwait-based Alghanim Industries is planning to bring American fast-food chain Wendy's to Saudi Arabia, with the first restaurant scheduled to open in the first half of 2017, the company said in a statement Wednesday.

Privately-owned Alghanim Industries in 2015 obtained rights to introduce Wendy's across the Middle East North Africa, and has since opened several venues in the United Arab Emirates.

Wendy’s recently opened another outlet in Dubai’s BurJuman mall.

The opening of Wendy’s in Saudi Arabia is part of Alghanim’s larger plan for expansion in the kingdom. In 2015, the company opened two X-cite stores in Riyadh, and plans to launch a new stone wool factory in Yanbu, the statement added.

The Wendy’s Company, which is listed on Nasdaq, currently operates 6,500 franchise and company-operated restaurants in the United States and 28 different countries.
