Work on the Riyadh Metro project is 41 percent complete after tunneling excavation works were completed on the blue line, the Arriyadh Development Authority (ADA) said.
In addition, the Riyadh Public Transport Project (Metro & Buses) is expected to start actual operations by 2019 after completing the road and infrastructure network.
The train network will initially consist of 190 units with the number of trains increasing to 338 in future. When complete, the metro will span 176 kilometers and include 85 stations, data compiled on Argaam showed.
Saudi Arabia’s construction sector has been facing setbacks for almost two years now as the government cuts back on spending amid a global oil price slump.
