Saudi Arabia’s Saline Water Corporation’s (SWCC) water desalination and power plant, which cost more than SAR 25 billion, has made it into the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s largest dual-function plant, said Ali bin Abdulrahman Al Hazmi, governor of SWCC.
The plant will supply Maaden with its energy needs, while Saudi Electricity Company will distribute the remaining power supply.
The Ras Al Khair-based facility currently has an annual production capacity of 1.025 million cubic meters of desalinated water and 2,400MW of electricity, Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Abdurrahman Al Fadli said.
Saudi Arabia’s King Salman is scheduled to inaugurate the new plant on Tuesday.
