Saudi Electricity Co. (SEC) said smart meters were offered in a tender that attracted 120 bidding companies in more than 50 consortiums, CEO Ziyad Bin Mohammed Al-Shiha told Alriyadh newspaper.
He said the utility company was examining the tenders and financial bids were expected in 2017.
Converting the 10-11 million meters across the kingdom into smart meters will cost around SAR 12-15 billion. However, no decision has been taken yet whether the cost of the replacement smart meter would be paid by the client, he added.
