UAE’s EGA signs pact with GE Power to cut emissions

21/12/2016 Argaam

UAE’s Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) and GE Power on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to work together on a 100-day program to reduce EGA’s nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions under the UAE Government Accelerators program, the companies said in a joint statement on Wednesday.

The companies are working in partnership with the UAE ministry of climate change and the environment to “secure tangible goals relating to the environment.”

The project is one of the first five under the Government Accelerators program launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the vice president and prime minister of UAE and the ruler of Dubai.

EGA, which is one of the top five producers of aluminum globally, plans to reduce its NOx emissions by 10 per cent by the end of Feb. 2017. Success in the project will improve air quality equivalent to removing 280,000 cars and their emissions from the UAE’s roads, the statement added.
