Saudi Arabia’s National Grid signed on Wednesday through a subsidiary a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Switzerland-based PFISTERER to develop the power transmission sector and form a new strategic partnership that will allow the kingdom to be a prominent hub for high voltage (HV) industries in the Middle East.

The MoU is also aimed to localize electric industries with the related technologies and training Saudi youth to these industries, National Grid’s vice president of engineering, Mohammed Al-Riffa, said in a statement.

It is also aimed to build strategic partnerships with renowned companies in this field to encourage them establish new plants in the kingdom.

Meanwhile, the first training center specialized in installing and maintaining HV terminals and connectors was launched in the kingdom as a joint venture with PFISTERER and the Saudi Civil & Electrical Projects Contracting Co. (CEPCO), Al-Riffa added.

The center will train the National Grid engineers and technicians to maintain and install electricity connectors.
