Bait Al Batterjee Medical Co. Ltd. will build a SAR 1.5 billion medical city in the Crown Prince Land Plot in Makkah, Osama Al Bar, mayor of Makkah said at a press conference on Sunday.

The Batterjee Medical City complex, to be built on 58,000 square meters of land, will have a 400-bed hospital, a 100-bed educational hospital with capacity for 2,000 students, and staff accommodation, with space for future expansion, the Riyadh-based Al Jazirah newspaper added citing Sobhi Batterjee, the company’s chairman.

Bait Al Batterjee Medical Co. Ltd. is a holding company, which through its subsidiary Middle East Healthcare Co. (MEAHCO) owns and operates hospitals in Saudi Arabia under the trade name Saudi German Hospitals (SGH).

SGH will be offered the chance to build and operate the project’s hospital under its brand.

Work on the medical city is set to be launched in three months and completed by 2020.

The project comes as part of a series of strategic partnerships between the Makkah Municipality and the private sector.
