Dubai-based Al Futtaim Carillion has won an AED 2.2 billion contract to develop the three districts at the Expo 2020 site in Dubai, United Arab Emirates state news agency WAM reported on Thursday.
The contract is the first of AED 11 billion worth of construction contracts that Expo 2020 plans to award this year, it was reported.
The three districts at the 438-hectare Expo 2020 site will be named Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability. The districts will house 136 pavilions for participating countries, non-governmental organizations, and commercial partners.
The six-month long mega-event is scheduled to open on Oct. 20, 2020.
Ahmed Al Khatib, vice president – real estate at Expo 2020 Dubai, said that construction of the infrastructure for the mega-project began last year.
“With the Theme Districts construction award, we are starting the main phase of buildings and construction,” he added.
