Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has met with U.S. President Donald Trump in the White House for the first time since Trump's inauguration.
Over an unscheduled lunch, the leaders discussed opportunities for U.S. companies to invest in Saudi Arabia, Reuters reported.
Prince Mohammed, who is heading the kingdom’s council tasked with diversifying the economy, is also leading plans to sell up to 5 percent of state oil giant Saudi Aramco in what is expected to be the world's biggest initial public offering (IPO).
"This meeting is considered a historical turning point in relations between both countries and which had passed through a period of divergence of views on many issues," Reuters reported citing a statement from a senior adviser to Prince Mohammed.
"But the meeting today restored issues to their right path and form a big change in relations between both countries in political, military, security and economic issues," the statement said.
Prince Mohammed and President Trump have agreed on key regional issues, including their stance on the danger of Iran's regional expansion activities.
