Maaden said to invite bids for $1 bln ammonia plant

Saudi Arabian Mining Co. (Maaden) has invited companies to bid on a contract estimated at $1 billion to construct a new ammonia plant in Ras Al-Khair, MEED reported, citing unnamed sources.

The plant will have a production capacity of 3,300 tons a day (t/d) of ammonia, largely used in the production of fertilizers.

About ten companies, thought to be prequalified, are forecast to submit their engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) bids by May 29.

In July 2013, Maaden awarded an $825 million EPC contract to South Korea’s Daelim to construct at 1.1 million ton a year ammonia plant at Ras al-Khair, the report said. It also plans to build a third phosphate complex at a cost of SAR 24 billion by 2024.
