Saudi Arabia's Saline Water Conversion Corp. (SWCC) signed on Tuesday an agreement with South Korea's Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction to build a new desalination plant in phase four of Shuiaba, said Abdulrahman Al-Fadhli, minister for environment, water and agriculture.
No further information was disclosed about the value of the facility, which will be implemented in 33 months.
The planned facility aims to increase desalinated water supply to Jeddah by 400,000 cubic meters per day.
Accordingly, the total capacity of Shuiaba desalination plants will reach 2.36 million cubic meters/ day. The plants will supply Makkah, Jeddah, Taif and Baha with desalinated water.
SWCC's governor awarded on Tuesday a contract for the second expansion of Shuaiba's third plant to Shuaibah Water & Electricity Co. (SWEC) boost desalinated water capacity by 250,000 cubic meters/ day to Makkah.
The facilities are expected to start services in Q2 2019.
