Bahri registers VLCC ‘Amjad’ under Saudi flag

The National Shipping Co. of Saudi Arabia (Bahri) said on Tuesday that the kingdom’s Public Transport Authority (PTA) has completed the registration of Amjad, a Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) owned and operated by Bahri, under the Saudi flag.

The announcement comes as part of the Tadawul-listed oil shipper’s plans to register all of its 37 VLCCs by the end of this year.

Amjad, the 37th VLCC to join Bahri’s fleet, arrived in the kingdom in February this year, docking at the Port of Ras Tanura near Dammam.

The carrier – which is 333 meters long, 60 meters wide and 29.4 meters high – was officially registered under the Saudi flag by officials from the Ministry of Transport and PTA.

Bahri is implementing its plans to register 18 remaining vessels, which will contribute towards boosting Saudi Arabia’s maritime trade volume with other countries, said Ibrahim Al-Omar, the company’s group CEO.

The Saudi flag is raised on cargo and passenger vessels after registration with the PTA, following which they are inspected and checked regularly in accordance with the standards laid down by international classification authorities accredited by the kingdom.
