The director general of King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, Turki Aljawini, said future plans for the airport include expanding its capacity to 21 million passengers per year, Al-Yaum newspaper reported.
The plans also include building a new runway, expanding the North and South terminals and enlarging the airport apron so that it can accommodate bigger airplanes, he said.
Following last year’s development works around the airport, its capacity was rose to 12.6 million passengers per year from 12 million, he added.
There is a master plan to develop the commercial areas near the airport, under which a tender was offered to an international company two months ago. The airport has 3.6 million square meters of land ready for investors to develop, Aljawini said.
