Rabigh Refining and Petrochemical Co.’s (Petro Rabigh) Rabigh Phase II project has started to produce thermoplastic olefin (TPO), the firm said in a statement.

TPO is widely used in manufacturing cars, car parts, cables, insulated pipes, and in roofing. The product will help create new manufacturing industry opportunities, Petro Rabigh said.

The TPO will be offered for competitive prices in the Saudi market, the statement said, adding that most Rabigh II products are expected to hit the market by Q4 2017.

Rabigh II is an expansion of the Petro Rabigh complex that was launched in 2009 to produce more than 1.3 million tons of petrochemical products per year.

The project will offer new products that are used in fiber products, textiles and food wrapping, such as low-density polyethylene (LDPE), ethylene-vinyl acetate (LVA), thermoplastic olefin (TPO), polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), nylon 6, acetone and phenol, p-xylene and benzene.
