Saudi Arabia adopts five-year plan to reduce wasted water

Saudi Arabia has adopted a strategy to reduce its wasted water to 15 percent over the next five years, saving 400 million cubic meters per year, local media has reported, citing a statement from the ministry of water and agriculture.

This will save the country 40 percent of wasted water, which costs it about SAR 2 billion per year to produce.

Because Saudi Arabia is among the countries affected by water scarcity, the new plan for rational consumption at this stage was necessary, the ministry added.

The water conservation initiative will also monitor water waste through control systems and leakage detection devices.
