Saudi Arabia will host the G20 summit in 2020, the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said on Saturday.

According to the closing statement of the two-day summit in Hamburg, Germany, the summit will be hosted in Argentina in 2018, in Japan in 2019 and in Saudi Arabia in 2020.

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has helped the Kingdom win the opportunity to host the G20 summit, which highlights the country’s economic and political status, said finance minister Mohammed Al-Jadaan.

Hosting G20 will enable the Kingdom to discuss economic challenges from a perspective that takes into consideration the needs and challenges of the Arab and Gulf regions, he added.

“The state officials who took part in Hamburg’s G20 meeting were keen to work with Saudi Arabia according to its Vision 2030, which is contributing to the growth and stability of both the Kingdom and the region,” Al-Jadaan said.

The G20 is an international forum for governments and central bank governors from 20 major economies representing 90 percent of the world’s GDP and two-thirds of the world’s population.

Saudi Arabia’s minister of state Ibrahim bin Abdulaziz Al-Assaf attended the two-day summit in Hamburg this year, representing King Salman bin Abdulaziz.
