Saudi Arabia’s Haramain high-speed rail project will be completed by the end of this year, said Saad Al Khelb, deputy transport minister, during a meeting with Deputy Governor of Makkah Region Prince Abdullah bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz.
As for the new King Abdulaziz International Airport, the project is 90 percent complete, Al Khelb said, according to Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The 450-km long railway will link the kingdom’s holy cities of Makkah and Madinah, and passes through stations including Jeddah, King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah, and King Abdullah Economic City in Rabigh.
The project will begin operations in early 2018, Rumaih Al Rumaih, chief executive of the Saudi Railway Co. (SAR) said recently.
