Saudi MOCI warns against food price hikes to offset expat fees

Saudi ministry of commerce and investment (MOCI) has asked food producing companies not to raise prices to offset higher expat fees, Al Madina newspaper has reported, citing ministry spokesman Abdul Rahman Al-Hussein.

 

The Kingdom earlier this month imposed a new tax on the dependents of expats at SAR 100 for each individual dependent per month, amounting to SAR 1,200 for one year.

 

The monthly fee is set to increase to SAR 200 for each dependent starting in July 2018, SAR 300 in 2019 and SAR 400 in 2020, data compiled by Argaam showed.
