Saudi Arabia said to buy wind power from Dumat Al Jandal for 20 years

02/08/2017 Argaam

Saudi Arabia has committed to purchasing wind power from the Dumat Al Jandal plant under a 20-year agreement to produce 400 megawatt of energy, Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper reported on Tuesday, citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter.

This move is said to enhance competition among the project bidders.

Saudi Arabia’s energy ministry had earlier asked companies to qualify to bid for its first utility-scale wind power project at Dumat Al-Jandal in Jouf, Argaam reported.

Requests to qualify for the project will close on August 10, and proposals will be received from August 29.

Under the first phase of renewable energy program, Riyadh aims to tender wind and solar power projects with a combined capacity of 700 MW.

Last April, 24 companies were approved as bidders for the 400-MW wind power plant.
