Saudi Arabia’s ministry of environment, water and agriculture is planning to set up a company to handle the national parks in the kingdom, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported, citing the deputy director of the natural resources department Abdullah Al Qarni.

The new company will be part of an anti-desertification initiative that aims to develop, revamp and invest in the Kingdom’s parks, fields and forests.

The initiative is part of the National Transformation Program 2020, which seeks to increase the number of national parks across the Kingdom to 24 from the current five, and provide them with the necessary infrastructure.
