Local and international companies will be allowed to install solar cells to generate power in Saudi Arabia, Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper reported, citing Abdullah Al-Shehry, governor of the Electricity and Co-Generation Regulatory Authority.
As using solar energy will be optional, interested firms will have to register for the tender and obtain a license from the Saudi Electricity Company, he said.
The solar energy project will be implemented by mid-next year, allowing consumers to export energy to the national grid at a set price or it will be a part of from their electricity bills, he added.
