The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) considering extending the shelf life of dairy products, including milk, yogurt and pasteurized milk, in order to cut food waste in the Kingdom, press reports said.

The SFDA and one of the national dairy companies will debate the issue during the first annual conference of food and drugs, to be held in the Kingdom from Nov. 7 to Nov. 9.

Also in the conference, a workshop will be conducted to set a strategic plan to cut food waste in Saudi Arabia.

According to data compiled by Argaam, SFDA approved in December 2015 to extend the shelf life of pasteurized milk to the maximum of seven days from five days, and amend the Saudi/Gulf technical regulations accordingly.
