Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Labor and Social Development has reduced the validity of work visas issued to the private sector to one year from two years, the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said on Monday, citing labor minister Ali bin Nasser al-Ghafis.
The decree does not include visas issued to government agencies and those for domestic workers, the statement said.
Work permits issued to the private sector dropped 29 percent year-on-year (YoY) to 1.4 million in 2016, the first decline in three years, according to data compiled by Argaam.
