Saudi Arabia’s Haramain high-speed rail will start commercial operations soon, Mohammad Feda, the project’s general manager at the Saudi Railway Company (SAR) said without mentioning the exact date.
The railway trial run will continue from Madinah to Makkah at the end of every week to ensure successful completion of required testing ahead of the official launch, Feda added.
At the end of December, the Public Transport Authority launched the first trial run between Madinah and Makkah at a speed exceeding 300 kilometers per hour, Argaam reported.
The rail also started a test run between Al-Sulaymaniyah station in Jeddah and Al-Rusaifah station in Makkah last month.
The 450-km long railway will link the Kingdom’s holy cities of Makkah and Madinah, passing through Jeddah and Rabigh, and can transport 9,000 passengers per hour.
