Jeddah flood probe results to be revealed soon, says Attorney General

Saudi Arabia will “soon” announce the results of investigations into the flash floods of Jeddah, Attorney General, Sheikh Saud Al-Mojeb, told Al-Madina newspaper on Tuesday, without giving further details.

Investigations are ongoing in several departments, including the Public Prosecution Office.

“Most lawsuits have been closed, but a few individuals are still under arrest due to other charges. All cases were considered, and will only be closed by a clampdown on corruption, which has become very limited,” Al-Mojeb said.

The Public Prosecution Office is an independent judicial system that will not exclude any suspect, even those affiliated to that authority, which cooperates closely with other entities to fight corruption.

On November 21, heavy rains swept through Jeddah, flooding roads and closing schools and universities, while navigation was stopped and several air flights delayed, Argaam reported.

Rains were expected to continue in Jeddah and Makkah for two more days, according to the Kingdom’s General Authority of Meteorology and Environment Protection.
