Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) has signed an agreement with theme park operator Six Flags to design and develop a Six Flags-branded amusement park in Qiddiya, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Thursday.
Qiddiya, the Kingdom's first entertainment, sports and cultural town, is slated to open by 2022, it said.
Qiddiya, a key project within the Kingdom’s entertainment sector, will play an important role in the development of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s economy and the realization of the ambitions of Vision 2030, a statement by the Public Investment Fund read.
Backed by the PIF, Qiddiya will be built 40 kilometers from downtown Riyadh.
It will feature recreational and educational facilities across six clusters: Theme Parks; Wheels and Wings; Scenic and Animal Encounters; Water and Snow; Sports; Events, Culture and Education.
