Here’s a look at weapons used by US, UK and France to target Syria

Earlier on Saturday, the United States, along with armed forces from the United Kingdom and France launched “limited’ airstrikes against a suspected chemical weapons compound maintained by the Syrian government, officials said in public statements.

US President Donald Trump described the goal of the strikes as establishing “a strong deterrent” against the use of chemical weapons, which are considered an international red line. The Syrian government has repeatedly denied any use of such banned weapons.

On Saturday morning, the Syrian Presidency posted a video of Al-Assad heading to the presidential headquarters for a normal day at work, to fulfill his duties, the caption said.

Here are some of the weapons the UK, France, and the US used in their strikes, according to CNN:

1) UK Tornado fighters

Britain contributed four Tornado fighter jets armed with Storm Shadow cruise missiles to the operation, launched from Cyprus, according the UK's Ministry of Defense.

2) French Rafale jets

The jets flew from bases in France, as they can strike without having to fly over Syria and avoid anti-aircraft defenses.

3) US B-1 bombers

Defense sources did not say where the B-1s flew from, but Air Force media earlier this month showed the bombers arriving at the Al Uldeid US air base in Qatar.

4) US guided-missile cruisers and destroyers

US defense sources said at least one US warship in the Red Sea participated in the Syrian airstrikes.

5) Tomahawk cruises missile

US defense officials did not specify what weapons were used during the airstrikes on Syria. However, the Tomahawk cruise missile has been the military's go-to weapon in past such operations, including an attack one year ago in Syria, CNN reported.
