Saudi Arabia’s Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) has issued temporary licenses for 3.4-3.8 GHz bands to mobile telecom operators to start fifth generation (5G) trial operations.
The telecom regulator seeks to provide all the possible capabilities to ensure easy 5G trails, it said in a statement on Wednesday.
The field trials are expected to be launched by the end of this year, it said.
The 5G services will impact internet speed and will promote modern technology, such as the internet of things (IoT), which would facilitate the services of smart cities, digital homes and other applications, CITC added.
According to data compiled by Argaam, the 5G network will be 100 times faster than the previous generation, which was launched in 2009.
