Egypt and Saudi Arabia are expected to sign contracts for their $1.6 billion electricity interconnection project in two months, Youm7 has reported, citing Mohamed Shaker, Egypt’s electricity minister.
“A transmission line will be constructed with a capacity of 500 kv, and will be upgraded to 1,200 kv,” the minister added.
Upon completion, a transmission line will stretch 1,300 kilometers to exchange up to 3.0 GW of electricity. The project is set to be operational by 2021, Shaker said.
