VOX Cinemas, the cinema arm of Dubai's Majid Al Futtaim, on Tuesday said it has signed an agreement with Canada's IMAX Corporation to open four more IMAX theatres in Riyadh and other prime locations across the Kingdom.
The new IMAX theatres will open in Majid Al Futtaim’s City Centre Ishbiliyah and Mall of Saudi, it said in a statement on Tuesday.
Last month, the first IMAX theatre was opened at VOX Cinemas’ new four-screen multiplex at Riyadh Park Mall.
VOX Cinemas plans to invest SAR 2 billion ($533.3 million) to open 600 screens in Saudi Arabia over the next five years. At present, it operates 322 screens across eight countries in the region.
Earlier this week, Saudi Arabia's General Culture Authority (GCA) and IMAX signed a non-binding agreement to jointly seek opportunities to identify and develop local IMAX-format films in the Kingdom.
