Saudi Electricity Co. (SEC) has more than SAR 100 million worth of new projects in Makkah, which helped providing the best electricity services during Umrah season and the holy month of Ramadan.

A total of SAR 93 million went for projects of switching stations and medium-voltage electrical substations in the pilgrims' housing complexes. The transmission lines span more than 392 km. Also, low-voltage electrical substations with transmission lines spanning 49 km were constructed at a total cost of SAR 10 million, while a sum of SAR 4 million went for the construction of 17 new stations.

Electricity is transmitted to the holy mosque via five switching stations at 13.8/110 kv, in addition to other sub-stations.

The Saudi utility provider also cited the role of its qualified team in eliminating power outages to the minimum level, and performing the regular maintenance processes.

The National Renewable Energy Program (NREP) targets 9.5 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2023 in support of the Vision 2030, with an interim target of 3.45 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2020.
