The UAE's Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA) appointed the International Company for Water & Power Project (ACWA Power) to lead a consortium for a 45 Million Imperial Gallons per Day (MIGD) Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) project, Emirates News agency (WAM) reported Monday.
The desalination independent water project is located in the Emirate of Umm Al Quwain. Tecton Engineering & Construction was also appointed as a preferred bidder.
FEWA seeks to reach the financial close of the project by Q3 2018.
Mohammed Salah, Director-General of FEWA, said that plant is the first cooperation between FEWA and the private sector and highlighted that the authority intends to start three other desalination plants before the end of 2018.
"As per a study conducted, the locations and capacity of the other three (3) plants are defined. As per FEWA strategic plan, FEWA will be totally independent and securing its water demand by 2022," Salah added.
